Biography
An actress as well as a movement and conceptual artist, Mik Kuhlman divides her time between Vashon Island, WA (Seattle) and Paris, France. The experience of living in two countries has had a profound impact on her personal study of human gesture and physical character.
She was Associate Artistic Director for Seattle Mime Theatre from 1991-1999, creating over twenty original works which toured nationally and internationally.
She has long-time artistic associations with UMO Ensemble, 14/48 – The World’s Quickest Theatre Festival, and On the Boards where she began developing her solo work Split Second. For this work she has received grants from King County Arts Commission, 4Culture, and Nellis.
Using her keen understanding of production, she helped establish the first fringe festival in the United States and created small hand open fist productions, producing several live performance events. She was part of the Special Projects Team at One Reel working on Teatro Zinzanni Seattle, TZ San Francisco, Bumbershoot and WOMAD USA.
In 2000 Mik lived in residence at the Chateau St Julien l’Ars, France with the Ardeo Theatre Project and a year later moved to Paris where she has worked with Kilometer Zero, One-World Productions, Actuel-Free Theatre, the Bilingual Acting Workshop and Compagnie Brigitte Dumez. Off stage, Mik has worked in television and film, and is a national voice talent.
She holds an MFA in acting from California Institute of the Arts and has continued studies at Simon Frazier University, Vancouver, BC; Ecole Jacques Lecoq (LEM) and Ecole Philippe Gaulier (clown), Paris.
